Shipping Bangla + English Product UIs
Lessons from bilingual newspaper and commerce products — typography, layout shift, and locale toggles that feel intentional.
By SR Rony

Bilingual products are not just translated strings. Bangla headlines are longer, line heights need room, and dense meta rows break fast on mobile.
What works for me:
- ▸Design the Bangla layout first when the brand is Bangladesh-first
- ▸Keep theme tokens and type scales shared across locales
- ▸Make the language switch obvious in the header
- ▸Test filter bars and cards with real Bangla content, not Lorem
On The Daily Column, dark/light themes and EN/BN switching had to stay readable across homepage, article, and admin surfaces. Once the shell is solid, content teams can publish without redesigning every page.
If you are building for BD audiences, treat localization as a product feature — not a late CSS patch.
